On the early morning of February 27, Nazeli Gasparyan messaged our clinic saying that Paytsar had developed wounds and severe scratches "all over the body". Nazeli has more than 10 cats, she has a disability, and it is difficult for her to care for all of them - financially as well. She did not have funds for a visit that day, so we decided to examine Paytsar covered by The Jar of Kindness.
During the exam, Paytsar had pronounced itching and scratch lesions, while appetite was preserved and activity level - unchanged. An important detail: according to the owner, other cats living in the same area are also itching. This almost always means the issue is not just about "one patient", but a problem affecting a group of animals and their environment.
We checked Paytsar for dermatophytosis (ringworm) using a Wood's lamp - there was no fluorescence. Preliminary assessment: likely parasitic dermatitis - subcutaneous mites or flea allergy dermatitis.
We prescribed Ivermec, external flea treatment with spot-on drops or spray with mandatory treatment of all animals and the premises, and wound care with Hexilok.
Paytsar's invoice was covered by The Jar of Kindness in the amount of 8,000 AMD. It included the initial consultation, Wood's lamp examination, an injection, and medications.
