On the afternoon of March 7, Armine found Shunik in central Vanadzor with a severe paw injury. Together with Liana, she quickly brought him to our clinic so that no time would be lost.
During the examination, Shunik was diagnosed with an open fracture of the left forelimb. At the same time, he remained conscious, his mucous membranes were pink, and sensation in the injured leg was preserved. In our discharge note, we stated that such a case requires osteosynthesis or, in the worst-case scenario, limb amputation.
At our clinic in Vanadzor, we provided Shunik with first aid, stabilized his condition, and honestly assessed what could be done next. We do not yet perform this type of surgery because it requires X-ray equipment and specialized orthopedic sets. Therefore, the next correct step was an urgent referral to Yerevan.
Shunik then received further treatment in Yerevan - an Ilizarov apparatus was placed. This is exactly the kind of case where what matters is not a "beautiful rescue story," but proper patient routing: admit quickly, relieve pain, treat the wound, stabilize, and transfer the patient to a clinic that can carry out the next stage of treatment.
Shunik's visit to our clinic was covered by The Jar of Kindness in the amount of 8,500 AMD. The bill included the initial examination, medications, and injections.
