Almonds are not considered highly toxic to dogs, but due to their high fat content they are very difficult to digest. Even a few nuts can cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating. In some dogs, almonds may trigger pancreatitis. Roasted or salted almonds are especially dangerous because of excess salt and fat.
Almonds for cats
Almonds are harmful to cats. Their bodies cannot properly process this nut, and even a small portion may cause nausea, diarrhea, or lethargy. Some cats may also develop allergic reactions. Almonds should never be given to cats in any form.
If your pet eats almonds and shows signs of poisoning — vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, or stomach pain — seek veterinary care immediately.
