Start of the Stray Dog Vaccination Project in Armenia

2025-09-29 12:20
On September 27, 2025, the Shunn u Katun clinic launched a new social project. The first six stray dogs received free vaccinations and microchips. Their data has been entered into the international AnimalID database, and each dog now has its own page on our website with information about vaccinations, chips, and personal stories.

The project is carried out by Shunn u Katun clinic in cooperation with the Shunik Toonik initiative, created by Birthright Armenia volunteers. The volunteers organize fundraising to purchase vaccines, chips, and supplies. Our team provides the medical part — examination, vaccination, microchipping, and registration in the database. All of this is done free of charge, because caring for animals means caring for people too.

The more dogs on the streets are vaccinated, the lower the risk of spreading infections dangerous for both animals and humans. It means less worry for parents letting their children play outside, more confidence for residents, and calmer neighborhoods. Vaccinated and chipped animals become part of a controlled system, not a threat.

Every dog in the project gets its own “passport.” On its page you can find the name, age, gender, vaccination and microchip dates, chip number, place of residence, and curator. This helps track each dog’s journey, makes adoption or guardianship easier, and ensures transparency for everyone supporting the project.

We are just starting, but we don’t plan to stop. With the support of partners, volunteers, and all caring people, the project will grow, reaching more cities and animals, making Armenia safer and the lives of its residents calmer and more comfortable.

Everyone can help — by donating for vaccines, sharing information about the project, joining as a volunteer, or bringing a friendly stray dog for vaccination. Even the smallest contribution leads to real change when we act together.

If you want to join, contact our clinic or the Shunik Toonik volunteers. Together we can make Armenia safer and its cities a better place for both people and animals.
