In August 2024, a small but incredibly brave patient arrived at our clinic – a Yorkshire Terrier named Adolf. This tiny, energetic dog, who always brought joy to his owners, found himself in trouble: Adolf had been attacked by a stray dog and came to us with an open fracture of the lower jaw with displacement and a tear in the soft tissues. This serious injury required immediate surgical intervention.
A Life-Threatening Fracture
An open fracture of the lower jaw is one of the most severe and painful injuries, especially for small breeds like Yorkshire Terriers. The displaced jaw not only disrupts the animal’s normal functions but also causes intense pain. Additionally, the tear in the soft tissues further increased the risk of infection, making the situation even more critical.
Adolf was in the caring hands of our veterinarians, who immediately began his treatment.
Osteosynthesis Surgery: Saving the Jaw
After thorough diagnostics and preparation, it was decided to perform an osteosynthesis surgery to restore the jaw and normalize its function. Osteosynthesis is a surgical procedure aimed at fixing and stabilizing bones using special materials.
During the operation, our doctors performed the following:
- The lower jaw was fixed with copper wire to restore its integrity and prevent further displacement.
- The torn soft tissues in the sublingual area were sutured to restore the structure and speed up healing.
The surgery was successful, and thanks to the professionalism of our doctors, Adolf was able to return to his family.
Adolf’s Recovery: The Road to Health
After the surgery, Adolf faced a challenging recovery period. Initially, it was difficult for him to eat, but a special diet helped gradually restore the function of his jaw. Our veterinarians closely monitored the healing process, regularly examining Adolf and adjusting his care plan. With the attention and support of his owners, as well as professional care from our clinic, Adolf made a quick recovery.
The Success of the Surgery and a Happy Life
Today, Adolf is once again full of life and energy. His jaw has fully healed, and now he can happily play with his favorite toys and enjoy delicious treats. Adolf’s story is a testament to how timely treatment and expert care can save your pet’s life and health.
