Monica’s story: how an apricot pit nearly cost her life

Monica is a young and lively dog who usually greets everyone with a wagging tail and sparkling eyes. But one day everything changed. Instead of her usual cheerfulness, she was suffering from green vomiting, refused food and water completely, and became weak and apathetic. For her owners, this was an alarming sign, and they didn’t wait for things to improve on their own. They brought her straight to our clinic.
During an ultrasound examination, we discovered a foreign object in her intestines. This explained both the vomiting and her overall poor condition. Such cases are not uncommon, as pets can accidentally swallow things that are absolutely unsafe for their bodies. In Monica’s case, it turned out to be an apricot pit. It may seem small, but objects like this can block the intestinal passage and cause life-threatening complications.
The only way to save her was surgery. Our surgeons performed a bowel resection and carefully removed the pit. The operation was successful, but that was only the first step. The most important stage still lay ahead - recovery.
For a whole week we, together with her owners, closely monitored Monica’s condition. She was put on a strict diet, her activity was fully restricted, she received only gentle food and plenty of care. Little by little, she began to eat again, showed interest in the world around her, and regained her energy. Thanks to the patience of her owners, the professionalism of the doctors, and Monica’s own resilience, her recovery went smoothly.
Today she is healthy again, playing and enjoying life as if nothing had happened. Her story is a reminder to all pet owners: even a small object, once swallowed, can cause serious danger. If your dog or cat starts vomiting, refuses food, or suddenly becomes apathetic, don’t wait. Take them to the vet immediately. The sooner help is provided, the higher the chances of saving their health and life.
