Free vaccination and microchipping for stray dogs!
The project is carried out by Shunn u Katun Veterinary Clinic in cooperation with the Shunik Toonik initiative, created by volunteers of the Birthright Armenia program. Shunik Toonik volunteers organize donation campaigns that fund the purchase of vaccines, microchips, and supplies
Shunn u Katun Clinic provides free vaccination and microchipping of stray dogs, enters their data into the international AnimalID database, and creates an individual page for each animal on this website
Why is this important?

Dog health
Without vaccines, stray dogs often die from distemper and parvovirus. Vaccination gives them a chance to live longer and without suffering

Participation conditions and FAQ:
Any animal volunteer or caretaker can bring a stray dog for vaccination and microchipping. Participation is free, but there are a few conditions
- Before coming to the clinic - call or message us to book an appointment.
- The dog must truly be stray (not a pet).
- Only apparently healthy animals can be brought in (no severe apathy, seizures, bleeding, etc.). If in doubt - first a check-up by a vet.
- The caretaker/animal activist must provide contact details (name, phone or social media) to be entered into the database.
- Transporting the dog to and from the clinic back to its usual habitat is carried out by the volunteer independently and at their own expense.
- Before the trip or visit to the clinic - take several photos of the dog from different angles. We also recommend recording a video. We use these materials to create the dog’s profile.
No. All procedures within the project are free of charge. We receive funding from partners and donors.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept aggressive dogs. Working with such animals requires special conditions and authority that our clinic does not have. In these cases, responsibility lies with the local authorities and municipal services.
Yes, starting from about two months old, if the puppy is strong enough and healthy. The vet will examine and decide on vaccination.
The animal is returned to its usual habitat, where it continues to be looked after by a caretaker or volunteer. At the same time, the dog gets a page in the database and a mark on the map.
It is registration in the AnimalID system and on our website. The page includes photos, age, gender, habitat area, microchip number, and the contact details of the volunteer who brought the dog to participate in the project. Such a page gives the dog a chance to be noticed, receive help, or even find a new home.
No, the project is aimed specifically at stray dogs. But the caretaker’s details (full name, phone number, or social media) are mandatory.
If the dog shows signs of a serious illness, we will first offer treatment (within our social program), and vaccination will be done later, once the animal has recovered.
You can reach out to animal volunteers or other caretakers who are already participating in the project. We do not have the possibility to independently catch and transport animals.
Yes, the project is designed to work with groups of animals, but it’s better to let us know in advance so we can prepare vaccines and supplies.
Mild reactions like slight fever, fatigue, or soreness at the injection site are normal and usually go away within 1–2 days. If the dog has severe swelling, persistent vomiting, seizures, or difficulty breathing - seek veterinary help immediately.
Modern studies show that even a single vaccination with combined vaccines (Nobivac, Vanguard, Biocan, Biofel, Multican, etc.) provides the vast majority of dogs and cats with strong immunity against major infectious diseases and rabies. Only about 10% of animals may fail to develop sufficient protection without a booster dose. This is why international recommendations (including WSAVA) advise revaccination one year after the first shot, and then every three years depending on the product.
Given the specifics of working with stray animals, where repeat capture within a short time is extremely difficult, we have adapted the vaccination schedule to real conditions and carry out revaccination every 1–3 years. This approach allows us to build sustainable immunity in more than 90% of the population.
It not only reduces the prevalence of dangerous diseases among stray dogs and cats but also directly improves the epidemiological situation in Armenia, protecting the health of both companion animals and people.
